@michael An article about virtual nightclubs
There are actually a ton, but the one I linked there has a great screenshot of one in action with a lot of those same fashion aesthetics that we saw in VNC

@michael Oh Mike this is definitely fringe! You know how I feel about Virtual Nightclub. I absolutely love it and find the culture it describes both very poignant and relevant even today. For those that don't know, this was an FMV adventure game originally developed for the Phillips CD-i that incorporated mini-games into the gameplay. When the system collapsed, the company had to pivot to the PC platform, made tons of changes and released it through the Sci-fi Network.
The game is absolutely FASCINATING as it captures club culture amidst the LGBTQIA+ communities as well as hacker, psychadelics, music and art counter cultures as well.
One of things I noticed during the pandemic was how club culture adapted to the lockdowns and folks were hosting virtual club nights and you could see the same style of dress, music and overall aesthetic represented here in this game. It is one of the most poignant cultural snapshots for various groups of people that we did not recognize during the 90s and even though the game itself is not a fun game, it's value is MONUMENTAL.
Hi, I'm Bogus! I am an excavator and explorer of games obscure and barely known! I have a massive love for digging deep into the history of often forgotten titles that are odd, unusual, but also very forward thinking.
Some of my main passions involve exploring long dead MMORPGs and the various stages those titles were in during their lifetime. I also have a deep rooted passion for FMV games, adventure games, fighting games and most important, communities that spring up around game titles/genres in general. Watching communities and how they effect the industry as a whole is a really fascinating aspect of video games that we rarely dive into.
Anywho! It's a pleasure to be here and I hope enthuse with all of you about everything here!
